MP ODONGA OTOO ON SPOT OVER ASSAULTING A JOURNALIST
The
member of Parliament for Aruu county in Pader district Hon Odonga
Samuel Otoo is now on spot after assaulting a Gulu based Journalist
identified as Ojok Geoffrey Okot working with Choice Fm in Gulu on
Sunday during the Fufa Drum tournament between Acholi and West Nile
Province on 16th June 2019
According
to the report Odonga who claims to be doing crowd management on the
touch line where the journalists were seated covering the game , then
all of a sudden he pushed toward one journalist (Okot Geoffrey Okot) and
sparks punching him three serious punches on his neck under unclear
reason .
While
the journalist was trying to identity himself saying he is a journalist
while holding up his Press identity card but Odonga could not calm
down and bitterly with ruddy and arrogant emotion replying that I don't
care
" A fake Journalist from a Fake media House , how much have you invested in this tournament " Said Odonga
One
of the eye witness identified as Michael Ojok a journalist working with
speak FM in Gulu revealed that he saw Odonga Otoo punching his
Colleague eyes on with all the insults he could , Hon Gilbert Olanya
the Member of Parliament for Kilak South in Amuru District and Akol
Anthony for Kilak North were all there begging Odonga to stop beating
the Journalist but he could not restrain saying he don't care .
Willy
Chowoo another witness say he saw Odonga Otoo pushing Geoffrey Okot on
his neck and moving away while saying he don't care about any thing
This
acts generates a horrible reactions from Journalists operating under
Northern Uganda Media Club to start Searching for his whereabouts to
record his statement with the police but he is hiding in vain since he
made the assault
When
contacted by Journalist , Odonga said journalists can take that case
even to God , "let him look for money else where " Odonga said .
However
Phillip Poline Okin the chairperson Acholi parliamentary group doubles
as the Mp for Cua West constituency in Kitgum condemned the act of
Odonga saying he will call to warn him

said it is not so disheartening that an area Member of Parliament who is
expected to be exemplary to the people he leads beat up a journalist ,
we condemned such actions in the strongest terms , we implore the Uganda
Police to expeditiously handle the matter so that the Journalist gets
Justice.
Geoffrey Ojok Okot is recently nursing a serious pain on his neck and back
A case has been File under SD 50 /16/2019 .
