Prudence Monica Apiyo – The executive director Her Worth foundation and secretary female youth affair Gulu city council says that they are putting up calls to everyone to come on board to support the crusade weather individually or as a partner.

Apiyo argued that they want everyone to get the information and get involved in the campaign of letting no girl remains behind because of period poverty.

David Ochan, a social worker and a researcher with every child ministry says everyone in different walks of life is invited to support the cause. He however disclosed that for one to take part of the program, one should buy a vest for 30,000shs and a t-shirt for 25,000shs as part of the proceeds will go help buy menstrual hygiene products like pads and sanitary towels, help in awareness creation in schools as well train girls on how to produce re-usable sanitary pads.

He urged everyone to support the endeavor since some parents don’t buy pads for their girls and in urge to look for it, they end up getting them from boys which normally exposes them to high sexual risks.

Peace Alur, the communication officer at Umbrella of hope called on men to take the lead in the menstrual run for the comfort of their daughters during ovulation. She adds that the main target is to ensure that girls stay at school during their menstruation. According to her, some men are living with their father without a mother and they don’t know how to use pads, therefore it is incumbent upon the men to come on board to learn and teach their daughters how to use pads.

The run that is slated to take place on 17th June 2023, shall attract dignitaries and key figures in the country including Phiona Nyamutoro the national female youth member of parliament among others.

Mental health education of adolescence girls is essential to deal with psycho-social problem related to menstruation.

Adolescence girls face significant psycho social problem during menstruation in terms of access to clean materials, lack of privacy for changing pads, disposal facility for sanitary napkins, socio cultural restrictions, less psychological and social supports, poor knowledge about managing pains during the menses, non-availability of counseling services and inadequate information on menstruation and its management, no preparation before menace, menstrual distress, burden and stigma.
