RESIDENTS PROTESTS SHORTAGE OF ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER
Some Residents of Ariaga Sub ward Bwona Parish Laroo Division in
Gulu Municipality have resorted to fetching contaminated stagnant fish pond
water source which is also being drunk by animals following an abrupt fencing
of a community bore hole water source which is fenced inside Laroo Adra Primary
School premises barring the over 3,000 community members from accessing the
water to support domestic uses in their respective households
Okee Charles Okiya a resident of the area revealed his dismay
that the water they are currently using is stagnant and contaminated for human
use pressing that they might not be in position to fully prevent corona virus
outbreak.
Lillian Adong another resident in the same locality explained
that the clean water challenge is pushing them to drink stagnant dirty fish
pond water and are afraid of water borne diseases as corona virus cases looms
Mercy Lamwaka said since the school authorities have fenced the
clean water source inside the school, they are now sharing a water source with
animals which is currently their major Challenge Samuel Okot a thirteen Years
old child residing in the same area being affected with clean water challenge
revealed he is not convenient with Using the dirty constructed fish Pond water
to aid his personal hygiene
And he is now one week
without washing his clothes even his body is very dirty and stingy, as the dam they
are using is dirty and contains human feaces.
The community are alleging that they have been using the dirty
water for one month now since the accused school authorities fenced their
borehole out from accessorily for the them, something the community is
optimistic that they have contracted various water bone diseases as a result of
using dirty water.
